One more sleep ...
The last three weeks have been pretty busy as I've tidied up the little piles of clutter that have a tendency to accumulate in the dark corners of our homes.
During the first week I taught Year 6 kids at the "Green School" in Newman. The highlight for me was helping the kids practise the songs they're going to be performing at their Graduation and at the end of year concert. I learnt the song High Hopes (which just happens to be the name of my place in Hopetoun) by Panic! At The Disco. I love the lyrics ..

Didn't have a dime but I always had a vision
Always had high, high hopes
Had to have high, high hopes for a living
Didn't know how but I always had a feeling
I was gonna be that one in a million
Always had high, high hopes
Fulfil the prophecy
Be something greater
Go make a legacy
Manifest destiny
The second week, last week, was all about organising the writing I have been doing on my autobiography. While I've been doing the long stretches of driving this year, memories have come floating through my brain. Instead of letting them continue their meander, I've been pulling over into the closest parking bay and writing them into my notebook. Now I have transferred those stories from my notebook into my computer.
This week has been about packing my car and my suitcase in readiness for my journey over the next three months. And it all starts tomorrow morning! Here's a skeleton plan of the days to come. Tomorrow I'll drive to Perth; Friday will be about catching up with a few friends, and early on Saturday morning with Jenny and Catherine, I'll
put on my blue suede shoes,
and board a plane
and after 24 hours of travelling,
touch down in the land of the Delta Blues ...
so we can go Walking In Memphis, USA.
In the following week we'll go to Graceland and Nashville, then fly to Chicago to spend the next three weeks getting our kicks on Route 66. Once we get to Las Vegas Jenny, Catherine and I will go our separate ways. I'll go and catch up with friends I made 52 years ago in New York state and New Jersey. I'll then fly to England to catch up with family and after a week make my way back to Australia. And there'll be more adventures after that, but I think I've revealed enough for now.
So exciting. Thank you for the invitation to join you on your journey. I really look forward to it xx Dee
ReplyDeleteHello dear Jan - I am touched to be included and thank you for adding me as I dearly would love to be reading your blogs. USA how exciting - you have been before to Graceland ?
ReplyDeleteI went in 2017 to Memphis, NY & Vegas, Carribean etc and it holds fond memories that I relive each day - probably because I will never have the funds to do it again !
In Memphis as you turn the corner into Blues St from memory you will come across a cool shop a few shops up with all sorts of cool memorabilia to buy.
Anyways best I do some work so hear from ya soon - safe journey x
