The sign of a true friendship is that it doesn't matter how much time passes between seeing each otherIt was a day of catching up with good friends. You just pick up from where you left off. I'm so blessed to have several friends like that.

Then a cup of tea with Annette who's looking after Missy. (My heart goes out to Missy who spent 16 hours in the car yesterday, and does it all over again tomorrow as she heads back to Jigalong with Annette for Term 4. )Thanks Annette. Safe travels.

Now I'm at Dave and Kates before meeting up with Jenny and Catherine in 3 hours to start our amazing journey.

To all my teaching friends, I hope you have happy times with your students, and I hope the words for your reports flow easily. Next time I write, I'll be in Memphis!

A Visit to Jigalong

I visited Jigalong ... at long last! My very special friend Karen Wilson and her husband Mark taught at Jigalong in the 80's. Karen told me stories about how isolated they were there. They were newly weds and they didn't even have a phone! Any communication with their family and friends in civilisation was done by two-way radio ..... and everyone on the same frequency heard the conversation! My friend Annette is teaching out there at the moment, and who doesn't love to have take-away for tea on a Friday evening? So, I ducked into my favourite Thai Restaurant (KG's in Newman) and picked up some delicious Pad Thai Noodles, Green Curry and a Chicken and Cashew mixture. A Day in New York - November 9, 2019

I slept really well, got myself organised and headed out the door to take in some of the wonders of New York City. My hotel was just off Broadway which runs the length of Manhatten (the Island on which the city is established) which is 13.5 miles. First stop was at a coffee shop where the barista made me a delicious cappuccino. While I was waiting I struck up a conversation with a lady who was also waiting for her coffee. My accent was a dead give away that I was not from around New York. Like so many American people I have met on this trip, she told me how visiting Australia was on her "bucket list" and how she loved so many things about Australia from the programs she had watched on TV.  I had replied as I had in all these kinds of conversations, "Australia really is a great country. Route 66 Day 9 October 30, 2019

With the knowledge that we weren't leaving until after lunch, Jenny and I enjoyed the luxury of having the time to sleep in. We slept until we didn't need to sleep anymore. Then we leisurely prepared ourselves for the day, and once ready, we wandered out to to make our way down to the breakfast room. As we casually walked past a window, we naturally cast a glance to see outside, and this is what we saw!!! Snow!! Coming down heavily! We rushed back to our room, put on our really warm coats, scarves, beanies and gloves and headed straight downstairs, and out the front door of the hotel to play in the snow! It was soft and fluffy and I couldn't resist making a snowball. Then I needed someone to throw it at, so unfortunately for one of the guys on our trip, he was it. I missed!!
